the writing on nature`s wall

15 Oct

i remember the houses along lexington street;
the lawn ornaments and highway buzz
all seeming so far away.
the world hangs down so low now with
leaves wearing the burden of something;
maybe summer`s stale mate,
maybe october rain
bursting cheeks a flourescent ochre.
village and city distinction so blurred
death, red barn doors, and spilled slurpees so near
ice and rose pedal quilts and fire so much a dance.
