shotgun shacks and what not

29 Dec

people still live in caves,
not man caves,
old-time caves,
rock holes in the earth.
fancy people call them troglodytes.
25,000 people live in french caves.
they do it in Malibu, northern china,
in a place called Cappadocia in central turkey,
in north africa.
i remember the real estate signs, railroad ties and
bags of cement we mixed to build a fort.
it wasn’t a cave, but we were still cave men
and now we live in apartments with wood floors
from who knows what forest.
we flush money down toilets.
it’s a colossal evolutionary failure.

    You got THAT right, Steve!

“it wasn’t a cave, but we were still cave men”

Yes, mankind seems to be going backwards. In Canada too, huh? Sad to hear that.

        I don’t get it, Steve.

A lot of people who write on here and on the poetry blog act really jaded and “in” and “hip”, and they’re afraid to admit that they don’t understand something.

I’m not ashamed to admit it when I don’t understand something. I love the song (never heard it before, but I love it), but I don’t see the connection between this and cavemen? Could you explain, Steve?

Now, THIS song, well, you instantly think of CAVEMEN!!!!! Even a GEICO Caveman!
(I think that I read that Robin Gibb wanted to record it, in fact.)

Shame brings Momma’s cookies and milk. I like cookies and milk and now to your question….going back as in going back to being a caveman as in the simpler the better as in fuck most of evolution except instant replay, computers, medicine and a few other things. I think instant replay is good when it comes to controversial home runs, but anything else caters to the lazy ass mother *&(^*&^*&)^ who want to speed up the world and make us all dizzy. Excuse me I need to drink some lemonade and chill out.

Nils Lofgrin is the singer. You may recognize him from Bruce’s E Street band or as a former member of Neil Young’s Crazy Horse. He didn’t write the song. I think Carole King did or maybe it was the Byrds, but a lot of bands covered it. Lofgrin’s is the best damn version if you ask me.
